DMONG, led by CEO Lee Ji-baek, has officially launched its highly anticipated VR zombie survival game, ZOMVIRUS, on Steam as of November 27th (KST). The game, set in the vibrant and bustling district of Hongdae in Seoul, plunges players into a gripping battle for survival against hordes of K-zombies. Following its debut demo at the 2024 PlayX4 exhibition in May, ZOMVIRUS has captivated the attention of gamers both in South Korea and internationally, quickly establishing itself as a promising newcomer in the gaming landscape.
The game offers a rich and immersive player-versus-environment (PvE) experience, leveraging the immersive capabilities of virtual reality to bring the chaotic, zombie-infested streets of Hongdae to life. Players are tasked with scavenging for supplies, wielding weapons, and strategizing their way to safety, all while evading zombies that respond to sound and movement in unpredictable ways. The reliance on physical interaction, from swinging melee weapons to gathering resources, elevates the tension and excitement to an entirely new level, distinguishing ZOMVIRUS from traditional 2D zombie games.
Rooted in Korean pop culture, ZOMVIRUS takes inspiration from the intense, atmospheric horror of K-dramas like Kingdom and All of Us Are Dead. The game’s zombies—eerily swift and reactive to their environment—offer a terrifyingly authentic experience that will thrill fans of the genre. Additionally, players can use quintessential K-weapons like the K2 assault rifle and K5 pistol, further embedding them in the uniquely Korean setting and narrative.
To commemorate its launch, ZOMVIRUS is hosting an SNS review event through December 10th. Players who purchase the game via the VR Maniac banner or official SNS links, write a Steam review, and share their thoughts with the organizers will be eligible to win Steam gift cards. DMONG also has plans for further celebrations, ensuring the buzz around the game remains strong.
“ZOMVIRUS aims to spark a global K-zombie gaming phenomenon,” stated Lee Ji-baek, expressing optimism about the game’s potential to reach an international audience. DMONG has promised a series of updates to enhance the game post-launch, including bug fixes, performance improvements, and the addition of exciting new features such as multiplayer modes, expanded scenarios, and new quarantine cities like Manhattan and Shanghai. With its stunning visuals and innovative gameplay, ZOMVIRUS is poised to become a global sensation and a benchmark in the VR zombie genre.
